3. Moscow Kremlin[SEE MAP]

This famously fortified complex is remarkably home to five palaces and four cathedrals and is the historic, political and spiritual center of the city. The Kremlin serves as the residence for the country’s president. It has been used as a fort, and this fact is made clear by its sheer size. The Kremlin’s outer walls were built in the late 1400s.

Under Ivan III, better known as Ivan the Great, the Kremlin became the center of a unified Russian state, and was extensively remodeled. Three of the Kremlin’s cathedrals date to his reign that lasted from 1462-1505. The Deposition Church and the Palace of Facets were also constructed during this time. The Ivan the Great Bell Tower was built in 1508. It is the tallest tower at the Kremlin with a height of 266 feet (81 meters).

Joseph Stalin removed many of the relics from the tsarist regimes. However, the Tsar Bell, the world’s largest bell, and the Tsar Cannon, the largest bombard by caliber in the world, are among the remaining items from that era. The Kremlin Armory is one of Moscow’s oldest museums as it was established more than 200 years ago. Its diamond collection is impressive.

The Kremlin’s gardens – Taynitsky, Grand Kremlin Public and Alexander – are beautiful. The Kremlin has also served as the religious center of the country, and there is a tremendous number of preserved churches and cathedrals here. The collections contained within the museums include more than 60,000 historical, cultural and artistic monuments. Those who enjoy the performing arts will want to consider attending a ballet or concert at the State Kremlin Palace. Completed in 1961, it is the only modern building in the Kremlin.

Founded in 1524, the Novodevichy Convent is a place steeped in history. Behind the walls that once served as a fortress, there are four cathedrals with a fascinating icon collection and a venerable cemetery. Back in the day it was common for women from noble families to retire in monasteries, and the Novodevichy Convent had some notable residents such as Princess Sophia and Eudoxia Lopukhina, both related to Peter the Great (and imprisoned by him). The former was his half-sister who claimed the throne; the latter was his first wife, who stood in the way of his marriage to Catherine I.

One of Russia’s most visited cathedrals, Christ the Saviour is a truly remarkable site. The grandiose cathedral was built in the 1990s where a 19th-century church of the same name stood before it was demolished in 1931 by the Soviet authorities. Designed to look like its predecessor, the modern building also contains the icon Christ Not Painted by Hand by Sorokin, which survived the demolition of the original cathedral. The cathedral was the site of feminist punk collective Pussy Riot’s 2012 protest that led to the imprisonment of several members.

Moscow Metro

The Moscow Metro is often credited with being the most beautiful metro systems in the world. When it was being designed it was not just envisaged as a means of getting from A to B but also as a celebration of the workers. Many of the stations are decorated with themed panels, mosaics, chandeliers, sculptures and stain-glassed windows of various artistic styles and look more like underground palaces than metro stations. As such the metro is a tourist attraction in itself and should not be missed. It is also possible to visit the best stations as part of a guided tour. The most beautiful stations are located on the circle line. In any case the metro is often the best way of travelling around the capital as it is extremely efficient and avoids Moscow’s notorious traffic jams.

Once a royal estate, Kolomenskoye is now a museum-reserve and lies a few kilometers outside of the city center. A captivating place to visit, there is a plethora of history on show and the site overlooks the Moskva River.

Consisting of four historical sites, there are extensive gardens for visitors to explore, as well as loads of interesting old buildings, the former village of Kolomenskoye itself and the impressive Palace of the Tsar Alexey Mikhailovich – once considered the Eighth Wonder of the World by contemporaries.

Among the many stunning sights, it is the brilliantly white Ascension Church that is the undoubted highlight – dating back to 1532.

Victory Park

One of the main sights in the west of Moscow is Victory Park (Park Pobedy) which was create to commemorate the Soviet victory in the Second World War. Today it is an important venue for Russia’s Victory Day celebrations on 9 May where veterans gather and are thanked and given flowers by younger generations. The park is dominated by the massive Victory Monument which stands in front of the semi-circular Central Museum of the Great Patriotic War. More monuments can be found in the park, including monuments dedicated to the peoples of the Soviet Union who united against Hitler and to the USSR’s allies, as well as a haunting Holocaust memorial.

Once the summer residence of Catherine the Great, the stunning Tsaritsyno Palace is now a museum-reserve. The architecture is magnificent and there is a lovely park surrounding it for visitors to explore.

Located in the south of Moscow, the palace was commissioned in 1775 and recent renovations mean its lavish interior looks better than ever before with its elegant halls and beautiful staircases.

The exhibits on display look at the life of the empress as well as the history of Tsaritsyno itself. The huge palace grounds are also home to some other delightful buildings with the elegant opera house and wonderful brickwork of the Small Palace being particularly impressive to gaze upon.

The Bolshoi Theatre is the main theater in the country. The amazing opera and ballet performances it has put on over the centuries go a long way in explaining Russia’s rich history of performing arts.

While the Bolshoi Ballet Company was established in 1776, the theater itself was opened in 1825. The glittering, six-tier auditorium is lavishly and decadently decorated; it is a fitting setting for the world-class performances that take place on its stage.

Spending a night watching a performance of such classics as The Nutcracker or Swan Lake at the Bolshoi Theatre is sure to be a memorable experience and the beauty all around you only adds to the sense of occasion.

One of the oldest museums in the city, the Kremlin Armoury has a wealth of treasures; highlights include the ornate Grand Siberian Railway egg, the historic Cap of Monomakh and the stunning Imperial Crown of Russia which often has a crowd of tourists around it, jostling to take a photo.

Once the royal armory, there are loads of fascinating objects on display. Perusing the many sabers, jewelry, armor and more is as interesting as it is educational and entertaining and the swords are so finely crafted that you’ll almost wish you could pick up one and wield if yourself.

Established in 1851, the museum is situated in the Moscow Kremlin.

Once you visit Moscow, you will never forget it. I would like to tell you more about this amazing city.

Moscow is the capital and the largest city of Russia. Moscow is located in the north-central part of the European part of Russia. Moscow was founded in 1147 by Prince Yuri Dolgoruky. Due to the convenient location, the city grew and expanded. If you look at the central part of Moscow from a bird’s eye view, this city will look like a wheel. The Kremlin is situated in the center. Nowadays it is the center of the Russian Federation’s government.

There are a lot of museums (about 150), exhibitions and various galleries in the city.

Moscow provides great job opportunities. Everyone here will find a job to his or her liking.

In fact, there is no perfect city. Therefore, it is worth mentioning some disadvantages of Moscow. First, there is a huge number of people. Most likely, a person who prefers living alone will not like it very much. Secondly, the traffic jams. Sometimes it seems that you spend a lifetime in traffic jams and queues. Moscow traffic jams stretch for kilometers. Many people refuse to buy cars in Moscow due to traffic jams and limited parking spaces. Instead, they prefer to use the subway.

What can you visit in Moscow?

One of the main sights of the capital, which is worth visiting, is Red Square. Red Square is the beloved place of Moscow citizens. It is located behind the Kremlin wall. You can rent a bike and ride to Neskuchny Garden, the other famous park. At the end of Neskuchny Garden, you find yourself on Vorobyovy Gory. There is a beautiful view of the entire city in this place.

Every person who visits Moscow should go to the subway. Many people are using the subway instead of a car or taxi. In addition, it is quick and inexpensive to get anywhere by the subway. Many stations have a unique design and a fascinating history.

My Hometown — Мой город. Сочинение на английском языке + аудио

Это простой текст на английском на тему «Мой город». Если вам нужно больше слов на тему «Город», обязательно загляните сюда: Основные слова на тему «Город».

I was born in Nizhny Novgorod. It is my hometown. I have been living here all my life. Let me tell you more about it.

It is a very lively place, located in Central Russia. It was founded in 1221. Back then it used to be a major trading hub. People from all over the country came to Nizhny Novgorod to buy and sell goods. Now it has a population of one million and five hundred thousand citizens, it is the 6th biggest city in Russia.

Nowadays it is a large city with a big city center and suburbs. A lot of companies have their headquarters in Nizhny Novgorod. It is one of the biggest economic centers in Russia.

Of course, each city has its advantages and disadvantages. Let’s start with the advantages. There are many ways of transportation in Nizhny Novgorod. You can travel by bus, by trolley, you can even take the underground. Also, Nizhny Novgorod has an advantageous geographical location because it is located between two major cities — Moscow and Kazan.

However, there are also some disadvantages. First of all, it is very dirty and noisy because of traffic jams. Second, it hasn’t got a lot of public areas, such as parks, where you can spend your time with friends. Third, life here is pretty expensive, and the prices of houses and apartments are quite high.

In conclusion, I would like to say that despite all the disadvantages I like my city because I was born there and have a lot of good memories of it.

2. Red Square[SEE MAP]

Lying at the heart of Moscow, Red Square is the most important and impressive square in the city. It is one of the most popular tourist attractions due to its wealth of historical sights and cultural landmarks.

Drenched in history, the huge square is home to incredible sights such as the Kremlin, St. Basil’s Cathedral and Lenin’s Mausoleum, among others. Consequently, it is not to be missed when in Moscow as it really is home to the city’s most stunning monuments.

It is here that many important moments in Russian history took place; the former marketplace has hosted everything from Tsar’s coronations and public ceremonies to rock concerts and Soviet military parades. Wandering around the massive square is a humbling experience and undoubtedly one of the highlights the city has to offer.

Beautiful Stations of the Moscow Metro

The hall of Mayakovskaya Metro Station

This elegant station impresses with its simple columns made of marble and stainless steel. Cupola mosaics show the achievements of the soviet aviation. The station was named after the Russian poet Vladimir Mayakovsky (1893-1930). As the German Army approached Moscow in 1941, Stalin held a speech here addressing the Supreme Soviet before sending Russian troops to the front.

Mayakovskaya station was designed by the architect Alexei Dushkin and won a Grand Prix at the New York World’s Fair 1938. Alexei Dushkin also designed the stations Kropotkinskaya (Russian: Кропоткинская) und Ploshchad Revolyutsii (Russian: Площадь Революции).

The main attraction of this station of the Moscow Metro are life-size bronze statues arranged in pairs under marble covered arches. Novodevichy Convent

One of Moscow’s most beautiful sights is the Novodevichy Convent which was included on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2004. Novodevichy Convent, whose name translates as New Maiden Convent, was founded as a fortified convent in 1524 on the orders of Grand Prince Vasili III of Moscow to celebrate Russia’s recapture of Smolensk in 1514. Today the convent is run as a branch of the State Historical Museum, although some of its churches have been reopened for worship. Next to the convent is the equally interesting Novodevichye Convent where many of the most famous figures in Russian culture are buried, including Mikhail Bulgakov, Anton Chekhov, Sergey Eisenstein, Nikolai Gogol, Vladimir Mayakovsky, Yuri Nikulin, Mstislav Rostropovich, Konstantin Stanislavsky and many more.

Moscow State University

Situated around the centre of Moscow are seven gothic style skyscrapers which were built under Stalin and have since become known in English as the Stalin Skyscrapers or the Seven Sisters. Perhaps the most impressive of these is the main building of the Lomonosov Moscow State University which stands on the top of Sparrow Hills (Vorobyovy Gory); it is certainly the tallest of the seven standing at 182 metres tall or 240 metres tall if you include the spire. It was built between 1949 and 1953 and its main architect was Lev Rudnev. Its facade is decorated with sculptures by the famous sculptress Vera Mukhina. In addition to the spectacular building, just outside the front of the university is a viewing platform from where you can enjoy great views of the city.

Places of Interest in Moscow

Moscow is the biggest city of Russia and its capital. The city is situated on the Moskva River and was found more than 800 years ago. Nowadays, Moscow is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. It houses many attractive parks and squares, great architectural wonders and countless places of interest. Special attention is always put to the city center, as there are the most famous sights. Among them, the outstanding Kremlin and the Red Square, the Bolshoi and the Maly Theaters, Saint Basil’s Cathedral, the Historical Museum, the Armoury Chamber and many others.

Gorky Park

Moscow is actually one of the greenest capital cities with many parks and even forests within its borders. The most famous of its parks is probably Gorky Park which was established along the bank of the River Moskva in 1928 and named in honour of the author Maksim Gorky in 1932. In 2011 the park was given a new lease of life following a large-scale renovation. Many of its avant-garde buildings were restored and its tacky out-dated amusement rides were removed with the park being transformed into a modern, eco-friendly recreational area with many areas for sports and activities. In winter the park turns into the biggest ice rink in Europe. The park continues along the river as Neskuchny Sad (Not-Boring Gardens) and then the Sparrow Hills Nature Reserve. Since the recent renovation, the park has become extremely popular with Muscovites and visitors to the city.

Many people do not know that the length of all streets in this city put together is more than 4350 kilometers. There are a lot of hotels that offer rooms in various price categories. However, some of the hotels are considered to be the most expensive hotels in the world. Ostankino Tower is deemed to be the highest in Europe (540 meters), but it takes the 8th place in the world. – Не многие знают, что протяженность всех улиц города составляет более 4350 км. Moscow Skyscrapers Residential Area

As I have mentioned before 20% of the Moscow City’s space is allocated to apartments. The prices vary depending on the size, interior design and floor. Here is one of the examples that I found on one of the popular Moscow real estate websites.

This 500 square meters (about 5,500 square feet) apartment located on the 54th floor of the Federation Tower is on sale for $6,000,000. It features an expensive interior design by the well-known Hirsch Bedner Associates headquartered in California.

The apartment has 5 rooms including a 150 square meters (1600 square feet) living room. Looks nice!

The most expensive apartment in the district is located on 2 floors (58th & 59th) of the Empire tower. It occupies the space of 950 square meters (about 11,000 square feet), includes 270 degrees panorama windows and costs $17million.

Достопримечательности Москвы для детей

Classic children’s routes in Moscow are not much different from adults: schoolchildren must spend on Red Square and Kremlin museums, the Alexander Garden, and on other days diversify the cultural and entertainment program. Cognitive and interesting will be a walk through the zoological Darwin Museum, the exhibits of which will not leave indifferent any children. Fairy-tale expositions can be seen in the Pushkin Museum, the Museum of Russian Valenki, the House of Fairytales and the Ice Museum.

Do not forget about theaters, but it is advisable to buy tickets in advance. Pre-schoolers and junior schoolchildren will like it in the Theater for Young Spectators, the Puppet Theater or the Moscow Theater of the Children’s Book «The Magic Lamp», where they often stage performances based on fairy tales. Older pupils will also be interested in classical productions.

The Moscow Planetarium is a huge scientific complex, where schoolchildren of different ages like it. Here you can see a star map on the largest dome in Europe, touch meteorites and feel like an astronomer in an interactive park. On a fine day with children, you can go to the Moscow Zoo for the whole day, with an exotarium with reef fish, a dolphinarium and a pony club.
